ABC has started airing 'The Gruen Transfer'. It's such a shit and unmemorable name for an interesting show. But here's the summary:

The Gruen Transfer
(TGT) is a show about advertising, how it works, and how it works on us. Hosted by the inimitable Wil Anderson, TGT will decode and defuse the commercial messages that swirl through our lives, with the help of a panel of ad industry experts.

Guests on the program face a series of challenges designed to show the thought processes - and, often, the brilliance - of advertising, as well as its understanding of who we are and what we want. Each week we examine the tactics used to sell a particular product; it could be cars or chocolate or cleaning products.

So here we are, having shows that focus on something that's supposed to distract us from our normal lives to buy stuff. Oddly, it's been the highest launched rating show on ABC and also crowned the time slot of Wednesday night.

The notion of 'people will watch the ads as long as it's interesting' is again supported. Or maybe the rest of the show on TV were just boring as.

TGT airs 9pm Wednesdays. I've been streaming it here. You can even download it, but seriously, that's quite pathetic.
